RONAN DELIGHTS HIS FANS ALL OVER AGAIN

This is Bristol

By Kirsty Pugh

THOUSANDS of fans were thrilled by pop sensation Ronan Keating's performance at Ashton Court.

The Irish heartthrob - who shot to fame in the 1990s with the boyband Boyzone - played to more than 10,000 fans, who sang, danced and screamed their way through the entire show.

Reality TV stars G4 warmed up the crowd with their operatic versions of James Blunt's Beautiful, Frank Sinatra's My Way and The Circle of Life from The Lion King, as well as Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody - the song which shot them to fame.

Then it was time for the main event as Ronan strolled onto the stage, in a smart black suit, and waved to the crowd.

"Hello Bristol, it is great to be here on this beautiful evening," he shouted.
"Thank you for the warm welcome. It is so exciting to be here. I have spent a long time working on this album so I am itching to get back out there."

Mixing slow ballads with upbeat pop classics, Ronan had the crowd eating out of his hand from the very beginning.
He took the opportunity to showcase some of the tracks from his new album Bring You Home, including the first single All Over Again.

But the crowd were not disappointed as he launched into a number of his most popular hits - Father and Son, When You Say Nothing At All and Baby Can I Hold You, which all had the fans dancing in the stands.

The crowd was in fine voice, and when Ronan tried to get them to join in for the choruses, they were only too happy. Between songs, the Dublin-born singer took time out to encourage the audience to donate money to the Marie Keating Foundation - set up in memory of his mother who died of breast cancer.

He also denied rumours that Boyzone were going to get back together, drawing the only groan of the evening. Ronan was backed throughout by an accomplished band and by the time he played Life Is A Rollercoaster, at the end of an energetic and emotional set, it was easy to see why his post-Boyzone career has been such a success.

Barbara Gallaway, 52, an administrator from Yate, had seen Ronan three times before during his time in Boyzone, but this was the first time she had seen him solo.

She said: "The concert was really entertaining and we had a lovely time. It was very uplifting and enthusiastic.

"I have seen him three times before and I am thrilled that he came to perform at Ashton Gate. He is so genuine, and when he walked through the crowd I managed to shake his hand. It has been an amazing evening."

The clean-cut star, a married father-of-three, has had 12 top-10 singles and three number one albums since leaving Boyzone.

Now 29, he is due to release his fourth album later this year and is also set to branch out into movies.

Kerry Baker, 26, a civil servant, drove all the way from London for the concert and queued from 8am to make sure she got to the front.

She said: "The show was absolutely amazing. I came to see G4, but Ronan was brilliant.

"I have loved him since he was in Boyzone, but we have never seen him before. The best bit was when he sang the Boyzone track - the crowd went wild."

With the new album set to be yet another chart smash, it is easy to see why Irish eyes are smiling.

RONAN TURNS IT ON AGAIN

Ashton Gate Stadium – Bristol Saturday June 24th 2006

A crowd in excess of 10,000 was present at Ashton Gate Stadium tonight to see Ronan Keating produce a fantastic live set.

Some fans queued from as early as 8am to see the former Boyzone star, coming from as far away as Blackburn, London and Kent.

And they weren't to be disappointed as the Irish pop star belted out a string of fantastic hits from his career, beginning with Turn It On Again.

The performance included a mix of songs from his 10 Years Of Hits compilation and the new album Bring You Home - which Keating describes as "my best ever".

Ronan - wearing a smart black suit and tie - then told the fans: "Thank you - It's great to be back here in Bristol."

Great renditions of I Love It When We Do, The Way You Make Me Feel, All Over Again and Last Thing On My Mind followed.

Ronan educated the Bristol crowd about the Marie Keating Foundation for Cancer Research, a scheme named after his late mother.

An emotional performance of When You Say Nothing At All was followed by two more slow songs - We've Got Tonight and If Tomorrow Never Comes - which had the fans swaying from side to side with their arms aloft.

Life Is A Rollercoaster was equally well-received before his encore performances of Lovin' Each Day and aptly The Long Goodbye went down a storm.
Ronan spoke to the fans once more to reveal: "My World Tour will begin in the New Year, probably in South Africa. We'll be coming to Cardiff but it would be great to come back to Bristol.

"It's been hell of a night and let's not leave it so long to next time Bristol."

Earlier in the night classically-trained vocal four-piece G4 had warmed up an appreciative crowd, following short performances from guests Abi Ryan and Ross Copperman.

Group chief executive Colin Sexstone told bcfc.co.uk afterwards: "It's been another great night for Ashton Gate Stadium.

"The show drew a crowd in excess of 10,000. We can now turn our attentions to another big show on Wednesday when The Who are in town."

Ronan on the World Cup Footie Show Spectacular, Channel 9, Sunday June 18th

View Rae's screenshots here

The World Cup Footy Show Spectacular was basically orientated around soccer and the impending game of Aust V Brazil so the entire audience was a sea of green and gold soccer supporters waving Australian flags and socceroo banners. I had to sit through an hour before Ronan came on, of a performance by Simple Minds, an interview with Anthony LaPaglia and endless dribble about the World Cup but at last the host introduced our man with “who better to take us off to the next level now than a man that has had 13 consecutive No.1 hits, 30 million albums sold worldwide, tonight with the Goo Goo Dolls song Iris, Ladies and Gentlemen lets hear it for Mr Ronan Keating.

He sang beautifully, really strong performance and sounded fantastic. After hearing Simple Minds I was a little worried about the sound in the theatre as the lead singers voice came over rather weak but I need not have fretted as Ro was amazing as usual his voice was outstanding, gosh I never get sick of hearing it. He looked gorgeous in his dark suit and white open necked unbuttoned shirt. His hair was as he has been wearing it, fairly flat but slightly whiffed up at the front. In the middle of Iris where the music just plays he looked amused at the crowd as they cheered and waved their banners, looked more like they were at a footy game, the camera shots from behind Ro looking into the crowd showed just what he was confronted with, not his typical audience I shouldn’t imagine.

He finished the song with C’mon Australia which brought massive cheers and then mouthed good luck and said best of luck into the mic in that gorgeous Irish accent.

After the ad break they came back to a few things and then I realised Ro was on the panel and they re-introduced him and had a bit of a chat. I was disappointed that they didn’t mention his up coming album release here in Oz but he had a laugh with them and got in some hot water with the crowd by saying he was supporting whoever was playing as Ireland weren’t in it, but quickly changed it to he was barracking for Aust against Brazil which made the crowd happier. I will write out a transcript of the interview later and post it.

The rest of the show was rather boring for me and Ro was by far the best performance on the night and I’m not being bias. I was thrilled to see him on our television after so long and I know the show would have generated a big audience here so its great exposure for him. Can't wait for his other Aussie promo stuff now and they will surely focus on the new album as by July we should have the album out here at last. He definitely did us proud.

A POP KING STILL RAINS - CAUGHT LIVE RONAN KEATING

Siobhan Grogan At Hampton Court Palace

Sunday Mirror - June 18th 2006

IF there's one thing that should never be relied upon, it's the good old

British weather.

After a week of tropical temperatures in the capital, Ronan Keating's fans were no doubt looking forward to a concert under the stars following a picnic in the grounds of Henry VIII's former home, Hampton Court Palace.

Precisely one minute before Ronan was due to appear though, the rain started - and didn't stop for the whole performance.

Despite that, the crowd's enthusiasm was barely dampened and they went on to clap and sing along with Ronan regardless.

Inspired by their hardiness, a sharp-suited Ronan responded with an appreciative, enthusiastic performance, swivelling his hips and reaching out to shake hands with the front row.

After over a year's break to record a new album and spend time with his third child, the Irish singer seemed relaxed and thrilled to be back on stage.

With his name in lights behind him, he joked with his band, thanked the audience for sticking with him and promised plenty more to come, including a world tour next year.

Though the set was peppered with new tracks, the sheer number of hits played from Ronan's back catalogue was astonishing, from his reworked version of Father and Son to the breezy Life Is A Rollercoaster and the lovelorn ballad When You Say Nothing At All.

As the rain hammered down, Ronan also made sure his fans weren't the only ones getting soaked, leaving the covered stage for an extensive walk

through the crowd and returning equally drenched, to everyone's obvious delight.

Clearly, it was going to take much more than a downpour to ruin their evening with Ronan.

Hampton Court Concert, London Tuesday June 13th 2006

Had a fantastic night yesterday. Really enjoyed the concert and it was good to see the way he lifted the crowd and brought them all on board by the end. We were sat in one of the side blocks and what with distance, lighting a very energetic Mr Keating and a very tall man in front couldn't really get any photos worth showing.

I wasn't too sure about the suit but it fitted the occasion and I think Alex has finally got some scissors to his hair - well, just a bit. Seemed in a very good mood I thought and there were lots of looks and jokes with the band. I was amazed to see him come down and walk right through the audience (especially as it was raining quite hard at the time) and the girls at the front must have been treated to quite a few handshakes. He was really sweet with the kids as well. Loved the bit where he thanked some friends for coming and then told us they were his lawyers and that he had to keep them sweet, so Calum butts in and says that he wants to thank his plumber then. The set was well balanced with the new tracks interspersed with the more familiar tracks and a very lively performance of Brown Eyed Girl. Lots of quite saucy innuendo and gestures plus some nice chat between the songs. Just for once I actually felt that we had a really long concert too - perhaps because Bush Hall the day before felt so short. Have to mention that the sound was particularly good yesterday and we could hear everything he said really clearly. Unfortunately we could also hear some woman in the audience yelling out "boring" during his little talk about his charity work. You could feel the shock and antagonism from the whole audience - I hope she was evicted. We were sitting in an area where I think most people weren't regular Ronan fans and you could really see and feel him drawing them in. I am sure that there will be a good few new fans after that performance.

Despite the wet weather you could appreciate what an attractive venue this is. The beautiful gardens, the picnickers under the trees, the flower borders, the fire eaters, the lovely building, walking through history to get to Base Court and the ambience within, all made for a great setting. Some of it was definitely filmed so just maybe some of the footage will turn up some time.

Thanks to Heather!

Bush Music Hall, Shepherds Bush London - Invite only gig

Monday June 12th 2006 - See my Bush Hall gig photos here

As some fans know, for one unavoidable reason or another, I had never seen Ronan live…until now!  And all thanks to Heather; and on top of this, I finally got to meet my very good friend Ange which was brilliant after only speaking to her on the phone and emailing her for so long, again, this was thanks to Heather.

By Saturday night my bag was packed ready to leave Jersey for London the next morning.  I hardly slept that night because I was so exited, even though I’m 40 I felt like a kid eagerly waiting for Christmas day to come.  My flight to London was at 9.25 on Sunday Morning, the taxi arrived to pick me up at 8am, I had to be at the airport 45 minutes early, the taxi driver was really nice and very helpful, he took my bag to the check in desk for me and I wheeled myself over in my wheelchair, I paid him and he left, waving.  He’d picked me up a few times before so I knew him quite well.  The flight over was a bit bumpy despite the lovely weather but it was quite short.

Heather and Rachel met me at Gatwick Airport, we chatted as we made our way to Heathers car, Rachel and I talked about Boyzone, particularly the last tour when Ronan wore that silly feather hat lol.  After I’d checked in at the hotel and freshened up etc, (and chatted to Heather and Rachel more about Ronan) We went down to the foyer to wait for Ange and Nick, when they arrived, we went to a pub down the road for lunch which was really nice, then we stayed there and chatted for quite a while afterwards, mostly about Ronan, which probably bored Nick stiff lol.  Later on, Ange and Nick went home and Heather, Rachel and myself went back to the hotel and sat outside for a bit…..more chat about Ronan lol.  Later on, Heather and Rachel went home and I had an early night, not that it did much good, it took me ages to get to sleep because I was too exited about the gig the next day.  I have to say that although the hotel was basically disability friendly, getting in and out of my room in a wheelchair was a nightmare!  But the bathroom was easily accessible and moving about in the foyer was a doddle.

On Monday, Heather and Rachel picked me up at about 11.30 and we made our way to Bush Hall, it was soooo hot! When we got there, Jill came over to speak to us, she was really nice, and then Ange arrived.  We moved closer to the nearby tree hoping to get some shade from the scorching sun but it didn’t help that much, we could hear the band doing a sound check inside the hall.  Ange had missed Barry and Alex arrive which was a shame, but none of us missed the most important person arrive…..Mr Keating! He was wearing a blue t-shirt and Jeans, and was looking gorgeous as usual with very blonde spiky hair and a cool pair of shades.  As Ronan rushed into the hall, he said a quick “Hi guys, how-r-ya” before disappearing through the door and joined the band for the sound check.  Ange joked “Well, you’ve seen him, we can go now” As if!! Lol, I was staying put!

The staff were fantastic and said that told us that we could go in a bit early because I was in a wheelchair, I was taken right to the front near the stage.  There was no air conditioning in the hall so it was hotter than it was outside, especially after the gig started, we were all sweltering in the heat!  The stage was small and it was easy for me to see everything.  Everyone else was then let in and they all sat down on the floor, then we were given melon and cherries to eat while we waited for the gig to begin, which was refreshing.  Regina was introduced to us, it was lovely to meet her and some of the other fans and be able to put a face to the names.  The organiser talked to us briefly and joked that if we fainted we should fall away from the stage, there was little chance of me doing that if I fainted lol.  Some fans were led backstage as they had won a meet and greet competition, they returned with their VIP passes (which we’d been given earlier) and signed cd’s.  The lights went down and we were asked to move right up to the stage which surprised me, so we did, I was almost right behind one of the speakers so I was hoping that I wouldn’t be deafened by the music, I needn’t have worried.

I stared at the backstage entrance that Ronan would be coming through, first the band appeared, Liam Bradley, Calum McColl, Keith Duffy (no not that one!), James McNally and Ronan’s backing vocalist, Janet Ramus, and then suddenly, Ronan appeared, OMG! My eyes must’ve looked like saucers as I stared in total awe this amazing man that I’d been a massive fan of almost since the start of his career, he looked younger than he does on TV and in his dvd’s and photos.  Ronan had changed into a red t-shirt with a black lightening motif, and his hair was flatter, but oh boy did he look gorgeous! We all cheered and applauded him as he launched into Turn It On Again, I was totally entranced by Ronan’s performance, he was amazing, and I was completely oblivious to the fact that Ange kept looking at me most of the time or leaning on my wheelchair lol.  I took lots of photos which turned out brilliantly as you can see on the site.  During the gig, Ronan looked straight at me and smiled OMG! I wish I’d caught that moment on camera, it was so special for me, also Janet gave me a smile and a wave, and said hello.  Heather took some great photos too.  The full set list was Turn it on, Iris, All over again, So easy lovin' you, Last thing on my mind, Friends in time, When you say nothing at all, Life is a rollercoaster and Lovin' each day.  Ronan said that Kate couldn’t make it to sing All Over Again with him as she was doing various festivals, so he sang it with Janet, who he also sang Last Thing On My Mind with.  I absolutely loved seeing Ronan live for the first time, and was very lucky to be so close, it certainly won’t be the last time I see him live, that’s for sure! Ronan’s performance of all the songs made me tingle with excitement, my favourite track of the gig has to be Iris, closely followed by So Easy Lovin’ You, and of course, Life Is A Rollercoaster and Lovin’ Each Day.  Ronan talked about the video for Iris and also, seeing Robbie at Croke Park, and he also thanked everyone for buying the album and was pleased with the No. 3 chart position.  Ronan looked happy to be back performing for his adoring fans.

All too soon the show was over L Before the gig, we’d been given tickets for a prize draw to win a signed disc of the album, Ronan pulled out the winning ticket and as the number was read out, someone yelled with excitement at having won.  Ronan thanked everyone, including the radio stations, and us, then he rushed off.  I think I was in shock at the end of the gig after seeing Ronan live for the first time, it was such a buzz! I wish I could have seen him again straight away, still, there’ll be other times for sure.  Mandy from Ronan’s official forum came over and said hello which was nice. Before we left, Ange and Heather went to speak to someone from Polydor, Ronan’s record company, to ask if it was possible for me to meet Ronan, but they said that unfortunately he had to rush off, but they came over to me and gave me a copy of Bring You Home, Ronan’s new album which he had only just signed which I will treasure for the rest of my life.  It was lovely to get outside, it had cooled down a bit, but not that much really, and I was really thirsty.  I had a fantastic time, again, I have to thank Heather for giving me the chance to go to Bush Hall and see my idol in the flesh.  I’ll never forget it as long as I live.  I didn’t fly back to Jersey until the next day, but you don’t want to know all of that do you, so I’ll end my review just by saying see some of you at one of the venues on Ronan’s next tour, I’ll be there!  And Ronan, you were AWESOME!!!!

Review by Eily

Bush Music Hall, Shepherds Bush London - Monday June 12th 2006

Invite only gig

Ange with Janet RamusFirstly I have to say a huge thank you to Heather and Rachel for giving Eily and myself the opportunity to go to this special gig. I met Eily for the first time the day before and it was lovely to finally match a photo and a voice over the phone, to the real thing. We’ve been running this website together since 2003 and have become good friends and it was great to spend some time together and talk about Ro.

On Monday I met Eily, Rachel and Heather outside the venue on a scorcher of a day, there were a few familiar faces all huddled under brollies for shelter and we found a shady spot under a tree. It was great to say hi to Jill outside and we all chatted and waited eagerly. I had apparently missed Barrie and Alex arrive as I was busy melting on the Tube at that time L

We kept moving around as the sun passed over and we were slowly running out of tree!  There was a sound check going on inside.  Then suddenly a shiny BMW 7 series (I think) pulled up alongside the curb where we were waiting and out popped a dinky Mr K! Looking very blonde and wearing a powder blue denim like shirt and jeans, Rachel took in more detail of the jeans but I was too busy staring at his face in a daze LOL.  It was strange everyone was silent, there were no screams reminiscent of his Boyzone days; he looked around and smiled and said ‘hi guys howya’ sporting a cool pair of shades that were still light enough to see his eyes and I swear he looked right at me as he disappeared through the door. I joked to Eily, well you’ve seen him we can go now, but she wasn’t going anywhere!  I have to say the staff at Bush Hall were terrific and had already informed us that we could take Eily through a little earlier and get her comfortable. A few more minutes later we heard the band again and the familiar tones of Ronan’s voice penetrating the side entrance door, he was singing It’s so easy loving you and then went into Iris, so that took our minds off the heat for a while and he was in good voice.  Then it went silent and we assumed the wait wouldn’t be much longer, one of the staff opened the doors at last and we were allowed to go through.  The building didn’t have air conditioning so there wasn’t much relief but we were out of the sun at least, we were all given our laminated VIP passes hung around our necks which had the album pic on and the date of the concert; I dashed to the loo and when I came out they’d already gone in!, Eily was taken right to the front on the right and it was ideal. The room was carpeted with lots of elaborate carvings on the walls and ceilings and chandeliers, with a big silver disco ball hanging above the stage area, it was obviously an old building with character.

The stage wasn’t that big and it wasn’t too high so it was ok for Eily’s view point. We poured in and were glad of a sit down and then fruit was passed around for us to munch and we had an indoor picnic, how civilised.  Regina introduced herself to me and she met Heather, Rachel and Eily and we all waited and watched. The organiser said a few words and checked everyone on the list and joked that if we felt faint we should fall away from the stage…..hmmm

We watched enviously as a few fans were led through to the back stage area, they were radio competition winners and they came back with their VIP passes signed and CD’s. The lights went down and we all stood and then we were surprisingly asked to shuffle forward more, we were literally touching the stage.

At last the band walked on, Ronan had Liam Bradley, Calum McColl, Keith Duffy and James McNally with him and Janet Ramus on backing vocals.Ange with Janet Ramus Then Ronan was introduced; with Barrie holding the door open and out he came in a change of outfit. Red T shirt with a black lightning motif and loose fitting casual jeans with a chunky belt emphasising his wee waist, I think he’s been training! And the hair looked flatter, either through Alex’s doing or the heat just flattened it immediately.  He got a big round of applause and kicked into Turn it on again straight away.  I was watching Eily’s face as she looked in awe and we checked she was ok where she was and could see ok, she was fine.  She was snapping away with her camera and got some fab results as you can see on the site.  Ronan was laughing quite a lot and made eye contact with a few in the front, including Eily which was lovely, he was joking around with Janet and she gave Eily a wave and big grin too.  I had taken my camera and then decided not to take pictures after all, I wanted to fully concentrate on the gig and take it all in and it was just too hot to be looking through a viewfinder all the time, Heather was taking some great pics too. My view was perfect coz I was standing behind Eily’s wheelchair which also came in handy to lean on when the heat was wilting us lol. One of my favourite tracks of the afternoon was Iris, even though I was boiling in that hall, when he sings that his voice just gives me chills, I could’ve done with him on the Tube earlier! He said he was sure it was going to be the next single and he sounded excited about that and said it had a cool video filmed in Dubai and he loved making it. He also mentioned seeing Robbie at Croke Park in Ireland and Ronan said Rob was shitting himself playing to that many people, which got them comparing the biggest crowd they’d played to and Ronan said try performing at the World Cup opening party in Berlin! , I was slightly annoyed by someone behind me yelling ‘give me his number then’! Err hello this is a Ronan Keating concert, are you sure you’re a fan??

He had massive praise for Kate Rusby when All over again was mentioned, they’ve obviously become good friends and he said he loves her voice and he thanked everyone for buying the single and for also getting him at no.3 in the album chart.  Janet was incredible on this as ever, it’s become a real sing-a-long track in the same vain as If tomorrow never comes.  Ronan was feeling the heat and grimaced when he touched his damp armpits, laughing at the front row, he should’ve been standing with us outside for ages as he arrived in his big air conditioned car ;)

He looked chuffed with the response to one of the new tracks; It’s so easy lovin’ you and mentioned how he enjoyed making the album and taking time out.   The surprise track of the gig was Last thing on my mind which Janet did admirably; still think I prefer LeAnn with him on this one though. Another one from the new album Friends in time and Janet’s vocal was incredible, she was hitting high notes that I think she even surprised herself with!, the whole band had great fun with this one and it got us all clapping, Janet was having fun mocking our clapping and doing her own style.  The ending to When you say nothing at all was given a new style with Ronan singing ‘free falling’ which at the time we couldn’t think what song it was from, its a Tom Petty hit and it actually worked really well and showed Ronan’s vocal range, another chill went through me, thanks Ronan!

Part of the competition was to win a signed disc of the album, we were all given raffle tickets as we went in, Ronan pulled the lucky winning number out of a bucket and someone further back yelled Oh my God!……….

The band were introduced individually, and Ronan said James has become a dad recently, James was rocking an imaginary baby and then nodding off and Ronan laughed and said he hasn’t had much sleep lately.  Ronan talked about the World Cup and said he’d had a bet on Portugal and won a few quid, he went on a bit of tangent really and then as if coming out of a train of thought looked at Janet and said I talk too much and I saw Janet laugh and answer yeah you do, they have a real rapport with each other.  Ronan joked why are we here? Oh yeah lets have another song and kicked into Life is a rollercoaster which is always a crowd pleaser and then sadly the last song of the afternoon was Lovin each day with the usual saucy hand to crotch gestures to ‘I need you here’ he only did it once though L

And that was it shows over, he thanked the radio stations for their support and for the fans sticking with him and waiting, waved and was off.

I was lucky enough to get a piccie with Janet thanks to Heather; it’s silly I didn’t think about my own camera shoved in my bag at the time! Janet was willing even though she was in a rush, she joked ‘my armpits are minging!’ She has such a wicked laugh and a real bubbly personality and if I couldn’t get a pic with Ronan then she was second best, Rachel also managed to pose with her too and then she had to dash.

Eily looked dazed and stunned bless her, she really took it all in, and we milled around while they packed the equipment away and said hello to Mandy from the boards, everyone had enjoyed it but we really needed fresh air and were gasping.

It was a fantastic day apart from the heat and we certainly couldn’t get any closer, a lovely memory and I can’t wait for an arena tour next spring!

Loose@5.30 ITV1 - Thursday June 1st 2006

I met up with one of my Ro pals Karen; at the station and we headed off to the South Bank studios with the smallest map possible of the area on the back of the ticket!  Eventually we spotted a huddle of familiar faces outside and joined the queue, we had plenty of time. We assumed Ronan had arrived already to do rehearsals and so we waited.  I met Heather and her daughter Rachel for the first time, and we chatted briefly before shivering again for another 25 minutes or so. We were counted endless times in pairs and our bags were checked and it felt more like a school trip than a TV studio recording.  Our legs were numb with cold and when it came to climbing the short steps inside, my legs were like lead weights but we eagerly piled in, just to get in the warm.  One by one we streamed into the studio which was so tiny and makes you realise how the world of Television is far from glamorous as it seems on the small screen.  We found ourselves perched in the front row, me being the last person seated and we had a railing in front of us but a clear view of the studio set. There were floor managers and cameraman dotted about wearing headphones and reading notes and the studio audience were eventually all seated. We were told not to be shown chewing gum, to go to the toilet if we needed to first, to laugh in the right places and look like we’re enjoying ourselves, are we positive we’re not on a school trip??

Me and Karen watched on as Kaye Adams, one of the presenters breezed on set and said hello to everyone, Ted Robbins (with way too much make-up on) and Colleen Nolan (ex the Nolan sisters – one hit - enough said) which we all had to get up and dance to as she came on, what was it now? I’m in the mood for dancing…hmm, the best dancer won a cheap bottle of plonk, probably coz they knew who the Nolan sisters were!...oh and some other rather camp bloke who judged on Strictly Come Dancing, I wasn’t really interested in a name, just bring Ronan on!!

At last the cameras rolled, and that’s when we realised our seats weren’t so great after all, I found myself watching under the guys armpit or leaning more and more towards Karen.  The set consisted of a long semi circle shaped desk and really uncomfortable looking plastic stools that I was impressed Kaye Adams perched herself rather lady-like on in what looked like 3inch heels! -  And a couple of houseplants, hardly the Ideal Home Exhibition.  The presenters all said their pieces to camera and we could watch their autocue rolling and follow, Ted Robbins ego should’ve had its own show, he thought his gags were side splittingly funny but we laughed dutifully anyway.  The topic of today’s show was the back, crack and sac i.e. waxing – should men do it? The thought of; is it really suitable for teatime TV? did cross my mind if anyone was tucking in at that point.

I must admit our concentration wavered as Karen whispered that she had just seen Mr K waltz by behind set, he was here!  I hardly noticed what was being said after that point but remembered to laugh when Ted Robbins had obviously made another funny – needless to say I won’t be tuning in every afternoon.

The cameraman obscured my full view, much to me and Karen’s irritation, so we watched the TV monitors above our heads.  We followed the autocue as Kaye Adams gave the viewers at home details of how to win a car which we all instinctively ‘Oooohhed’ to and Colleen Nolan sat there blankly trying to figure out the rules which; unscripted made it quite amusing.  The autocue rolled and at last Ronan Keating was coming up after the break.  The cameras stopped rolling and the studio lights went up as we chatted excitedly, the moment was nearly here. Ted Robbins joked that some of the audience (specifically the blue rinse group at the back, bless them, obviously regulars to the show) wouldn’t know who Ronan Keating was, so he said he used to be with the Bee Gees, blimey that was funny!!

Make up checked, lights down and we continue blah blah blah Ronan Keating! Suddenly he’s standing at the doorway of the set; grinning up at the audience and wearing a gorgeous tan leather brown jacket, blue faded scruffy jeans and a black T shirt.  He waves up at the audience again and steps in, and at that point a girl can’t help but notice the fly of his jeans, he was packing something in there! *blushes*

He strides over to each presenter and walks along the back of the desk, shaking hands and kissing cheeks (I’m sure the camp one - still can’t remember his name from Strictly Come Dancing would’ve preferred the kiss on the cheek but he got the firm handshake instead) not sure if that was rehearsed, it looked more spontaneous to me. Then he perches himself on the centre stool, looking adorably sexy with the first words to come out of his mouth “I don’t have a Brazilian!” and we all laugh.  The conversation obviously turns to the Cosmo photo shoot with a round of applause from us for the cause.  Luckily the cameraman wasn’t hogging my view but I still watched the TV monitors, the chat was brief sad to say but the album was plugged and shown which was the main thing.

I didn’t even notice Calum McColl, Janet Ramus and 2 cellists walk on and take their positions on the far side of the studio podium, I was so wrapped up in what Ronan was saying.  Ronan explained that Kate couldn’t be here today as she was away and Janet Ramus would be singing it with him. I was surprised they kept rolling throughout as Ronan walked over to stand beside Janet for All Over Again as the backing track began to play. It sounded so lovely without a drum beat over the track, just Calum on acoustic guitar and the 2 cellists. Ronan opened his mouth for the first line and his voice just swamped that tiny studio.  No matter how many times I have seen Ronan; his ability to make such a huge sound from a petite but perfectly formed body still astounds me as we watched mesmerised and felt lucky that there was a performance today also. Janet gave the song a different perspective with a bigger voice than Kate’s and the two of them just gave me chills. I didn’t want the song to end, but it was perfect in one take, but I was annoyed to glance up at the monitor and see the credits rolling before they had finished.

The lights went up again and Ronan’s part was done, he shook hands with everyone again, this time standing in front of the desk and we noticed Colleen handing over the album for Ronan to sign which he did gladly. Although she bent a little too far and with a cleavage like hers it must’ve been an education for Ronan! She suddenly realised and pulled her dress back up laughing coyly with us. Someone from the front row called to him and he looked our way walking towards the front row smiling. We stood up and Karen searched frantically for the CD single she’d bought that day.  Ronan began chatting with the fans and we all leant on the railing, it did cross my mind that if our weight broke it, we’d be flat on our faces!  He went briefly along the row, signing and chatting and Karen tried to focus her camera but was spotted by one of the studio staff who informed her that she couldn’t take photographs – even when they weren’t filming?? I think she was just being a jobs-worth and a misery, so Karen put it away in her bag again.  Mandie kindly asked Karen to pass the CD along and Ronan signed it for her and he was only about 3 people away.  I was studying his face, his skin was immaculate, obviously he had a touch of make-up on for filming but he was glowing and looked really healthy.  His hair might’ve had a little help, it looked more blonde than strawberry and he seemed so small and cuddly, he’s just one of those people that I think even if he wasn’t famous, when he walked into a room he’d still turn heads, male and female!  We leaned further and then he waved, nodded and breezed off! NNOOOOOOOOOOOO he was so close, but it was a bonus that he came over and we were sat so close in the first place so we were very lucky.  I squeaked ‘Bye Ronan’ and he was gone

After he left Colleen Nolan was quite smug about her signed CD and she joked that he’d put ‘Love Ronan’ – he’d actually put Best Wishes and the fake tan guy said he smelt lovely…Old Spice I think and then laughed

I watched it on TV the next day and to my surprise we were on the television, my 20 seconds of fame.  Nothing was edited out of the recording which I was glad to see, but they did cut the song short with the credits rolling.  It was lovely to see Ronan after not seeing him since Wembley 2004, it was too long and I won’t leave it that long again, he still has that girlie effect on me and it’s such a buzz when you see him and hear him and he’s genuinely nice when he meets everyone and so polite, he’s adorable and I love that leather jacket!.

Ronan at NDR2 Plaza Festival – Hannover, Germany Friday 2nd June 2006

Review by Lizzie:

It was actually not that cold on Friday, and he took off the jacket pretty soon. I think he wore the scarf not for warmth but for fashion.

I only just came back yesterday, the first time I'm online. We had a fab time at the concert; Ronan was damn gorgeous and absolutely fantastic as usual!!!

The long wait outside the venue was quite worth it. We got to stand in the front row and it was kind of exhausting cos we had to wait so long for Ro to come - the other 3 singers that played were ok-ish but it took hours till Ronan finally came which was quite annoying. But he made up for it all... he played for over and hour and sang all the usual hits and also Friends in time, Easy loving you, Brown eyed girl, and Iris and All over again obviously. Janet sang the 2 duets (AOA and We’ve Got Tonight) with him and she was fab as always He dedicated FAS to James, Ro said he'd just had a baby boy last week. And it was Keith Duffy's (not the BZ one) birthday, so we all sang Happy Birthday for him.

There were also quite some funny bits in the show like during WGT, pretty much near the end, they suddenly didn't know whose turn it was to sing so there was like a break and eventually Janet was like "it's your go" and he was like "no, yours!" so it went like that for a while and eventually Ronan sang (it was his go, of course!) and Janet kinda slapped him, it was so cute and funny! Then during FAS, he was so sweet during the bit when the song goes "I'm old but I'm happy", when the audience were singing and the word "old" came, Ro pointed at himself and made a kind of "wrinkles and hunchback"-pose, which is *really* hard to describe but looked dead funny and Keety and me just burst out laughing and couldn't stop - that was just priceless.

Hmm what else happened, well I got to shake his hand during TWYMMF and I was really chuffed It's always nice that he comes down to do that.

All in all it was really a brilliant show and I miss him loads now but I still have my BYH album to listen to so that's all the same

Have fun everyone who's seeing him this summer, he's AMAZING!!!! (As if we all didn’t know that lol!)

Love
Lizzie

Ronan performing in Rostock Germany for the NDR2 Festival – Friday 26th May 2006

Review by Conny - Click here to see Conny's brilliant photos!

As you may know, it was a radio festival with two other acts! But both were good and not boring at all! But we couldn’t wait to see Ronan finally on stage!

Luckily me and my friends were front row! The stage wasn’t too big and gratifyingly not too high! I could easily see his feet.........lol it was great to see him back in Germany!

Exactly 8:30 he was on stage and kicked off the show with TIO!

The band, not all the familiar faces but Janet was there, she did a great job with All Over Again and Friends in time!! God, what a powerful voice!!!!

Callum, James, a proud dad since Thursday, Keith Duffy, James Hallawell, another guy on drums, sorry don’t know the name, and the other Steve on guitar!

Unfortunately the sound wasn’t the best, too much power for the guitars and to less for Ro’s mic sometimes!

Followed from ILIWWD with the usual moves!

During TWYMMF we showed him a "Good To Have You Back" banner, which he much appreciated with a lovely smile and nod to us! We also got his handshake with a warm smile when he came down!

Ronan was great, and in top form..........and very happy to be back again!!!! He smiled a lot!

He sang four of the new songs, they are brilliant live! So easy loving you is not a really slow ballad, it has a great vibe! Friends in time sounds great, very powerful!

He didn’t get the words right in a line and giggled at Janet and Callum.

I guess he was surprised that we could help out and sing along! I got a big grin from the drummer during the song and Ro was grinning too!!! The song is really great and in my eyes it should become the next single! Iris sounds live even better too, very strong! AOA was nice too! I don’t like it with Kate and for me Janet did a better job! But that’s my opinion!

He talked a lot in between but because of the awful sound I couldn’t understand it all! But he said more than once that he’s happy to be back again, and he thanked the radio stations in Germany for playing Iris a lot and bring it up in the airplay charts so high!

He said it will be out on Monday......which was wrong cos it was out on that day (Friday)! Then some of my other friends showed him the new single ,they have already bought in the morning, and he got his thumbs up and grinned!

He was talking that the album comes out in a week and that he’s in Germany over the next three weeks for shows and TV-promotion!

The reaction from the crowd were quite good, well it sounded good, as I didn’t see much, because I didn’t look back a lot !But they were all singing along during FAS,WYSNNA and clapping and jumping by BEG and rollercoaster!
Ronan seems really enjoying being back on stage.......and looked very happy and grinning at the end!!!!
And so I am! Can’t wait to see him next Friday again in Hanover!

And btw the weather was good! Nearly our whole country had rain the whole day but in Rostock the sun was shining........not only on stage!

Thanks to Conny!

Ronan performing at the 30th Anniversary Princes Trust Concert – Tower of London

Saturday May 20th 2006 – Review by Heather

I won two tickets by entering the text ballot and my daughter (who some of you may know is a big Ronan fan as well) managed to get off uni to come with me. The concert took place in the moat of the Tower of London with the huge stage up against the castle walls side, the seating (£100 upwards) all in the grandstand perched on the opposite bank and the rest of us, who had won our tickets, left standing in the base of the moat. The whole set up was very wide and I think everyone would have had an excellent view.

After passing countless ticket checks, security checks, bag checks, detection gates and policemen armed with machine guns, we were handed a glow stick and finally found a place in front of the stage about 6 rows back. A good humored crowd – very mixed to reflect the range of artists.

The concert moved along quite well with each artist doing three songs except Ozzy with 2 and Pink also with 2 (she was apparently off to do G.A.Y. straight after). They had a black gospel choir or Natasha Hamilton on in a few places to fill some gaps and occasionally there was a break for one of the appeal videos. Cat Deeley was on really good form introducing. She joked and smiled with everyone. All the artists were named one by one and Ronan got a fair enough cheer – nowhere near the biggest but you wouldn’t expect it in that company.

Ant and Dec came on for a mo at the beginning then we were off. Thoughts on other artists:- I kind of agree with The Star's ratings. Bee Gees - a good start and got everyone singing along; McFly – smiley, happy people – good vibe; Annie Lennox – really good, not seen her in concert before and she really communicates with the audience; Embrace – disappointing, each song sounded the same, singer was a bit off key, couldn’t make out the lyrics, seemed nice people though; Will Young – oh dear, I love a lot of his music and most of the vids but he just does not communicate, self-absorbed, good to hear but not to see (he was just the same the time I saw him before), told Cat he is taking a year off to travel and act (let’s hope he learns to perform as well); Sugababes – quite good but poor sound at first, very slick; Ozzy – not my music, he was yelling into his mic off stage while an appeal was being shown, how rude, needed special carpet on stage perhaps to stop him slipping up, Sharon and Kelly were at the side of the stage; Ronan – will come back to him later; Pink – good but not enough ; Lionel Ritchie – really good way to finish, all strong party songs, everyone clapping and waving their glow sticks. Apparently there were fireworks too but we could only hear a few bangs and saw nothing.

OK, you really want to know about Ronan don’t you? Well, the first we saw of him was after McFly when he appeared with Cat on the gallery above the stage where the musicians were sitting. If you have seen Cat interviewing Ronan before you will know what they are like – very good humoured, even a bit flirty. She joked that she had taken her shoes off for him and they chatted for about five minutes, talking about his charity work and the MKF and the merger with Cancer Research UK. He spoke about doing things for the Prince’s Trust over the years and then Cat looked up at the grandstand and said to Ronan “Is Prince Charles waving at you?” Ronan looked up smiled and nodded at the royal box (if you look at my photos you can see them both looking up) and then both he and Cat waved up there as well. I think the princes waved back. Then Cat reminded everyone that he would be back later and they left.

The main performance had Ronan on third from last, just after Ozzy and Natasha Hamilton’s Abba performance. I was hoping it might be a faster one because of the party mood but he chose to open with If Tomorrow Never Comes. He looked great in black round neck t-shirt, black jacket, diesel jeans and dark shoes (not brown). He was in a very smiley mood and when he held out the microphone for the crowd they really responded and belted out the chorus which was nice to hear. There was no one on stage with him, though somehow he filled it and nobody from the band up top with the orchestra that I could see.

He gave a little speech then. Told us all about how he had worked with the Prince’s Trust for over ten years now doing Party in the Park and other fund raisers. Said that he wanted to thank the three princes for being there and got everyone to give them a clap. He was looking up and nodding at the royal box. Then he looked up at the grandstand and said “You’ve been sitting on your seats for most of the evening. I hope this song gets you out of them. This is Life is a Rollercoaster.”

What a great performance. He had people singing along even from the beginning. Then he went to one side of the stage and climbed over the equipment to stand right at the edge looking out over the crowd. He looked around and then strode over to the other side of the stage and did the same again but then, surprise, surprise, he climbed down to the pit and came over to shake a few hands. Climbed up onto the rail in front of the crowds a few times and people were grabbing his hand, his arm, anything. He was right in front of me at one point and of course my camera refused to take a picture at that point … damn.. But he was certainly looking good. Eventually he climbed back the way he had come. (I don’t think anyone knew he was going to do that as there appeared to be no security, not even Barrie.) Back on stage we saw him looking up at the grandstand and could see that most of them were on their feet already waving their glow sticks. A moment or two later and, amazingly, all three princes and Camilla were all on their feet, clapping and waving their glow sticks too. We couldn’t quite believe what we were seeing (they hadn’t stood up for anyone else before) and you could see that Ronan was really thrilled by it. He kept looking up at them and was smiling.

After LIAR he looked up at the grandstand/royal box and said “Are you going to stay standing?” then he introduced Kate Rusby and they went straight into All Over Again. You will have seen this I expect. A great performance from Ronan I think but she really needs to lighten up a bit doesn’t she? He is all emotion, smiles, and strong vocals while she is caught in the headlights, with slightly understated vocals and somewhat idiosyncratic styling. I do wish she would stop holding her hands up in that mouse like fashion at the start. Anyway the crowd seemed to like it well enough, especially the royal box as they stayed on their feet through the whole song and considering it is a ballad and not a ‘get up on your feet and boogie’ type number that’s saying something. (They sat down after that and only got up again at the end of Pink’s last number and for Lionel Ritchie.)

That’s about it really. Ronan thanked everyone again and hoped we had a good evening and bounced off the stage with Kate. The crowd were enthusiastic in their applause and I heard a few appreciative comments. I have to say it was a great evening and we really enjoyed ourselves. Great show, great crowd, great atmosphere. The coverage I have seen on the television really doesn’t do it justice because they cut out all the commentary from the artists which is a shame and just showed one song each time. Hopefully they might put out a DVD with everything preserved in the right order but maybe I’m being optimistic.

Thanks to Heather!
