Q&A with Ronan Keating - Golden Discs

You’ve recently launched the very worthy Marie Keating Foundation’s Pink Ribbon Campaign in the Raddisson in aid of Breast Cancer. How did the launch go?

’Brilliant, so far we’ve raised over 1.5 million Euro for the Marie Keating Cancer fund and this was just another way to bring awareness to people. So far we’ve had over 40,000 women screened in our mobile units that travel the country. We’re constantly organising fund raising events, last year I walked across Ireland and every year we have a special golf outing in the K club.

The single “I HOPE YOU DANCE” has just been released and is doing very well for itself. Who’s idea was it to contribute all the proceeds to the Pink Ribbon Campaign?

’Well my PR company thought that Golden Discs would be the perfect partner for this and Golden Discs were only to happy to come onboard and I have to say it’s all worked out so well, the single is at number four in the Irish charts and number two in the U.K.

Why did you choose this song to front the campaign?

’I’ve always loved this song, originally I was going to use another song from the greatest hits album which was about my mother but it was a bit to personal so I decided to look at another song to use and this was just perfect.

Obviously when you’re trying to make people aware of what you’re doing you need as much media attention as possible. How hectic has your schedule been?

’In all my years in the business I’ve never been so busy, it’s just been non stop. Because we’re trying to raise as much money as possible as well as promoting the single it’s twice as demanding but it’s great I’m not complaining.

What’s your favourite song from the album?

’Probably ’Father And Son’ with Cat Stevens, he was just amazing to work with and to hear his voice on this song with my own is great. ’When You Say Nothing At All’ is another favourite of mine being such a popular single for me.

Is the release of a Greatest Hits album a hint at the end of your career? or just the end of one chapter and the beginning of another?

’Well this represents ten years of my career, ten brilliant years of solo stuff and of course Boyzone material so it is kind of the end of one chapter for me. I’ve just signed a new contract with Universal Music and I’ll be releasing my new album with them in about a years time after a bit of a break so there’s a lot more to come from my solo career.

How do you feel whenever you see the footage of yourself and the rest of Boyzone on the Late Late show all those years ago?

I cringe when I see it, ah no it’s absolutely hilarious, a good laugh and you do what you have to do starting of so I’m not ashamed of it.

What was it like hosting the MTV Awards?

’Ah it was a total blast, both times but especially when it was in Dublin, our own home town. I loved it, Dublin was buzzing with the excitement, I had such a great time.

I have to ask the question about a Boyzone reunion that we constantly hear so much about. Is this ever going to happen with Ronan Keating involved?

’No not right now, I’ve got so many things going on at the moment that it would be impossible for me to get back with the lads but it’s not something I’d rule out, just not right now.
