Ronan lights up Omagh for Christmas! -
Omagh Towntalk
If anyone could be as popular as Santa, it had to be Ronan
Keating!
The sensational solo performer switched on the festive lighting in Omagh on Friday 19th November 2004 and despite the seasonal chill in the air, temperatures soared among the capacity crowd which packed the town centre to see the singing celebrity take to the stage in front of Omagh courthouse. In fine voice, the former Boyzone singer treated locals and visitors alike to five songs including “Lovin each day”, “The way you make me feel” and everyone’s favourite “Life is a roller coaster”. Ronan even took time to get down from the stage to greet the audience, a kind gesture much appreciated, before returning to the stage for the countdown to switch on Omagh’s Christmas lights. Santa also appeared on the stage and mingled with the crowd as Ronan left after his half-hour show to drive to Belfast where he appeared on television as part of the BBC Children In Need appeal. As for Omagh, the town could not have got Christmas off to a better start.

Photo courtesy of ISFA Ronan fans treated to an intimate performance - The Scotsman POP star Ronan Keating performed an intimate show in the Capital for a specially-invited audience. Two-hundred and fifty listeners to radio stations in the SRH network - including Forth One and Forth Two - were invited to the concert at the Hub on the Royal Mile after winning a competition. A solo artist since 2000, former Boyzone band member Keating culled much of the twelve-song set from his recently-released Greatest Hits collection. Despite reinventing himself as a mature artist, however, the largely-female audience from across the country still greeted Keating’s every word with hearty screams. Hits like Lovin’ Each Day and Life Is a Rollercoaster drew a great reaction, as well as a cover of Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl, whose author Keating described as "Ireland’s greatest singer-songwriter". Prior to encoring with his own version of Cat Stevens’ Father and Son - the song he famously sang at his Boyzone audition eleven years ago - and the Boyzone hit Baby Can I Hold You, Keating also had a short question and answer session with members of the audience. Keating admitted that he found solo success more fulfilling than being in a band. "I couldn’t go back to Boyzone," he joked, "purely because I’m too old and I can’t dance! In the band we each shared the success, whereas now at least I know I’ve done it on my own. Besides, I can’t travel as much as I used to because my children are at school and I want to see them grow up." He also declared his support for fellow singer Bryan McFadden - whose band Westlife Keating mentored, and who has recently split from his wife, ex-Atomic Kitten singer Kerry McFadden - saying "he’s a really good lad, and I wish him all the luck in the world". The recorded gig, sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland, will be broadcast on Forth One, at 7pm on Sunday the 12th of December. Request Father and Son on The Box and Smash Hits!
