Keatings entertain Mandela at golf

Irish Independent

GOLF is like a love affair. If you don't take it seriously it's not fun. And if you do take it seriously it breaks your heart . . . Last Sunday in Cape Town, Ronan Keating combined love and golf and maintained the wholeness of his heart when he and his wife Yvonne played in a tournament in aid of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

Samuel L Jackson and Jodie Kidd also got in the swing of things with the Keatings. Doubtless, had his ex-manager been around Ronan would have gone clubbing with Louis Walsh - with a nine iron, that is.

Later Ronan performed for Nelson and guests, getting Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter of this year's Ryder Cup team to join him on stage for a rendition of Life Is a Roller Coaster. "The day raised over €1m for the charity," Ronan told me.

Ronan and Yvonne, who are spending Christmas at home in Malahide with their children Jack and Marie, had just come back from a romantic weekend in New York before they decided on a whim to hit South Africa.

"We're celebrating," explains Yvonne. Before anyone jumps to the wrong conclusion, the celebration was that Ronan's single Father and Son, with Yusuf, aka Cat Stevens, is out next week. "Ronan's album has been in the top 10 for the last eight weeks. And his show at Vicar Street in Dublin on December 21 is sold out."

Just when you thought Ronan and Yvonne would implode if they did any more celebrating there comes the great news that Ronan's sister Linda is marrying Michael Higgins on December 28 in the K Club.

MR SHOWBIZ: RONAN KEATING

PAUL MARTIN

The Irish Mirror

RONAN KEATING was kept on his toes during a family Christmas outing in Belfast at the weekend. The star brought his two kids - Jack and Marie - for an afternoon at the Odyssey Pavilion to check out a special Christmas display. But it looks like at age five, Jack has already learned all the tricks about getting into showbiz haunts.

As Ronan showed off a Christmas polar bear display in the middle of the complex Jack did a runner and headed for the stairs that lead to showbiz haunt Precious - a popular spot with stars such as Westlife and The Corrs.

Ronan shouted at the top of his voice "Jack! Get back here now!" but he was so quick that Ronan's driver Mick Devine had to catch him. Minutes later Ronan's wife Yvonne arrived and the happy family headed off to their car.

Daily Record, The Razz - November 20th 2004

With Beverley Lyons Andcath Bennett

IRISH heart-throb Ronan Keating has laughed off criticism from his ex-manager, Louis Walsh.

And he refused to retaliate to suggestions from the music mogul that he was past it.

He said: 'Louis does what he does. You've got to laugh at him. For me it's water off a duck's back. Live and let live where he's concerned.'

Ronan has never watched X Factor - the series in which Walsh is a judge - and has no wish to ever be a part of a reality TV show. He said: 'I don't like reality programmes in general.

'My wife is a big fan of I'm A Celebrity, but I'd never take part in anything like that.'

Ronan was in Scotland this week to play Up Close, an exclusive event organised by Scottish Radio Holdings and The Royal Bank of Scotland.

And the former Boyzone star admits he loves coming up to Scotland.

He said: 'The air up here is great. I've come up on my own this week and haven't had much time to get out, but hopefully I'll do some sight-seeing when I come back with Yvonne and the kids in December.

'Glasgow is up there with Belfast as one of my favourite places to play, but Edinburgh comes pretty close.'

The 27-year-old dad-of two is currently promoting his latest single Father and Son, which he is releasing with Yusuf Islam - better known as Cat Stevens.

Ronan lights up Omagh for Christmas! - Omagh Towntalk

If anyone could be as popular as Santa, it had to be Ronan Keating!

The sensational solo performer switched on the festive lighting in  Omagh on Friday 19th November 2004 and despite the seasonal chill in the air, temperatures soared among the capacity crowd which packed the town centre to see the singing celebrity take to the stage in front of Omagh courthouse.

In fine voice, the former Boyzone singer treated locals and visitors alike to five songs including “Lovin each day”, “The way you make me feel” and everyone’s favourite “Life is a roller coaster”.

Ronan even took time to get down from the stage to greet the audience, a kind gesture much appreciated, before returning to the stage for the countdown to switch on Omagh’s Christmas lights.

Santa also appeared on the stage and mingled with the crowd as Ronan left after his half-hour show to drive to Belfast where he appeared on television as part of the BBC Children In Need appeal.

As for Omagh, the town could not have got Christmas off to a better start.

Ronan's Hip Hop hopeful - Star's new image

November 19th 2004 - By Cath Bennett -
Daily Record

FORMER boyband star Ronan Keating wants to be a hip-hop star.

Ronan says he's going to ditch his pop past for a new direction on his latest album.

But anyone expecting raps with an Irish lilt will be disappointed.  Ronan says he'll leave the rapping to someone else.

And he has some famous names in mind to help him with his change in image. The former Boyzone star's wishlist includes Mis-Teeq, Ms Dynamite and Jamelia.

He said: 'I'd love to try something different like hip-hop and R&B. Of course, I'm not sure I'd be rapping.

'I'd get someone else to do the rap. I'd love Mary J Blige, but she'd hardly do it. Maybe a British artist like Jamelia.' Ronan, 27, was in Edinburgh last night to play an Up Close event in front of 250 radio competition winners at The Hub.

His set included hits Loving Each Day, Nothing At All and If Tomorrow Never Comes.

He is now promoting his new single Father And Son, a duet with Yusuf Islam, who recorded the song as Cat Stevens in 1970.

Ronan fans treated to an intimate performance - The Scotsman

POP star Ronan Keating performed an intimate show in the Capital for a specially-invited audience.

Two-hundred and fifty listeners to radio stations in the SRH network - including Forth One and Forth Two - were invited to the concert at the Hub on the Royal Mile after winning a competition.

A solo artist since 2000, former Boyzone band member Keating culled much of the twelve-song set from his recently-released Greatest Hits collection.

Despite reinventing himself as a mature artist, however, the largely-female audience from across the country still greeted Keating’s every word with hearty screams.

Hits like Lovin’ Each Day and Life Is a Rollercoaster drew a great reaction, as well as a cover of Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl, whose author Keating described as "Ireland’s greatest singer-songwriter".

Prior to encoring with his own version of Cat Stevens’ Father and Son - the song he famously sang at his Boyzone audition eleven years ago - and the Boyzone hit Baby Can I Hold You, Keating also had a short question and answer session with members of the audience.

Keating admitted that he found solo success more fulfilling than being in a band.

"I couldn’t go back to Boyzone," he joked, "purely because I’m too old and I can’t dance! In the band we each shared the success, whereas now at least I know I’ve done it on my own. Besides, I can’t travel as much as I used to because my children are at school and I want to see them grow up."

He also declared his support for fellow singer Bryan McFadden - whose band Westlife Keating mentored, and who has recently split from his wife, ex-Atomic Kitten singer Kerry McFadden - saying "he’s a really good lad, and I wish him all the luck in the world".

The recorded gig, sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland, will be broadcast on Forth One, at 7pm on Sunday the 12th of December.

FRIDAY NIGHT WITH RONAN KEATING and the BBC Concert Orchestra - Recording: Wednesday 10 November BBC Radio 2

This concert will be available to hear again for seven days after broadcast via the BBC Radio Player.

Ronan Keating comes to Radio 2 for an exclusive concert with the BBC Concert Orchestra, from the Mermaid Theatre in London.

If you're not a competition winner, don't worry because the concert will be broadcast on Radio 2 on Friday 26 November at 19.30.

The Glasgow Herald

RONAN Keating will be in Glasgow later this month to entertain 250 loyal fans in an intimate gig at a yet-to-be-disclosed secret location. As ever, Ronan will stay in a small, upmarket city hotel – the only one willing to comply with a unique request from the Keating camp: to keep its front door locked all day. This isn't to keep obsessive fans out or compliant groupies in. It's so one vital member of Ronan's touring entourage can safely roam about all day, his four- year-old son, Jack.

The Sun

RONAN KEATING has celebrated the release of his greatest hits album in style – by splashing out £700,000 on a yacht. The Irish singer got the taste for sailing after spending much of last summer relaxing on his racing driver pal EDDIE JORDAN’s boat in the South of France.
