Daily Mail - March 27th 2005

Favourite city: New York - I love the energy. I love the fact that you can get up at any time and have a beer. The city and the people are amazing. I love it. Also Paris - it's like it says on the tin: very romantic. It's a beautiful-looking city with great food and great bars.

Rendevous with Ronan

BBC Northern Ireland - March 21st 2005 (Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to see the link to the article, click here to download it)

John Daly meets up with Ronan Keating to talk about love, life and music in the latest Day Out With Daly - BBC ONE Northern Ireland, Tuesday, March 29 10.35pm

He’s been having hits for 10 years, scored eight number ones, shifted more than 17 million albums worldwide and has sold out arenas from Belfast to Berlin but, as John Daly finds out, life has been a ‘Rollercoaster’ for 28-year-old pop sensation Ronan Keating.

In the third programme of the new series Day Out With Daly, on BBC ONE NI, Tuesday,March 29, Dublin superstar Ronan opens up to John Daly about life, love and Louis Walsh. Speaking to John backstage at his Belfast concert at the Odyssey Arena, Ronan talks openly to John about falling in love with his wife, Yvonne, falling out with his former bandmates in Boyzone and his former manager, Louis Walsh.

Speaking about the Boyzone split, Ronan tells John: “I think we all outgrew it and we couldn’t go back to Boyzone, because it would never be the same again. People had said things about other people - people had said things about me.

“I was very upset, initially - very, very upset. Then you kind of grow up and get on with it,” he says.

And talking about his former mentor and manager Louis Walsh, Ronan says: “He’s a very bitter man. It’s very sad the things he said about me.”

Also in the programme, Ronan invites John to the Marie Keating Foundation’s Pink Ribbon Ball, so named after Ronan’s mother Marie who died of breast cancer, where he speaks frankly about his mother’s death and the reasons for starting up the foundation. Day Out With Daly offers fans the chance to hear about Ronan’s ‘Rollercoaster’ life from the man himself as he talks about everything from life and love to past failings and future plans.

Thanks to Regina!

Thousands to Hold Night Vigil at Downing Street for World Trade Justice

Christian Aid Today - March 20th 2005

In the run up to the Global Week of Action on Trade Justice on 10th-16th April, a coalition of UK aid agencies and faith groups has been preparing a massive event to join the global voice for justice. Thousands of people will be gathering at an all-night candle-lit vigil outside Downing Street, Westminster, London on Friday 15th April in a bid to push the UK government to reinforce world trade justice policies and to better protect poor countries.

The all-night vigil is organised by the Trade Justice Movement (TJM), which is a coalition of over 60 organisations in the UK, including Christian Aid, Oxfam, World Vision, Baptist Union, Methodist Relief & Development Fund among others. Stars from stage, screen and the music world such as Vanessa Redgrave, Pete Postlethwaite and Simon Mayo will be among the rally to perform songs and readings.

It is expected that Whitehall will be lit up with ten thousand spectacular lanterns and candles. Singer Ronan Keating said, "It will be an important event with millions of people all over the world calling for trade justice. A candlelit vigil outside Downing Street will be the biggest this country has ever seen. So come and be part of making history that night."

In 2005, as the UK hosts the G8 summit of world leaders and gains the presidency of the European Union, it gives the government a unique opportunity to change the unjust trade system that keeps millions of people in poverty and harms the environment. Make Poverty History, a massive campaign launched previously in the UK for 2005, has emphasised on this point and urges the government to take a leading role in implementing feasible policies to relieve world poverty.

With the same aim, TJM demands the government to stop pushing poor countries to open up their economies and respect their right to decide on trade policies which will help them end poverty and protect their environment.

Glen Tarman, TJM coordinator, said, "It’s going to be an amazing night. If you care about those living in poverty across the world - come and join us if you can. If you cannot stay up all night please come to Downing Street just before midnight on Friday 15th April. Help us wake up UK politicians to the fact that the British public have had enough of the way global trade is run in our name to benefit rich countries and hurt poor ones."

The all night programme has a huge range of activities throughout the night to appeal to everyone from clubbers to faith groups including:

- Club night at the Marquee Club in Leicester Square featuring Nitin Sawhney, Radio 1 DJ Bobby Friction and other artists

- Trade justice cinemas at the Odeon Panton Street and Methodist Central Hall

- Overnight fair trade café with breakfast served in the morning

- A fleet of rickshaws to give the public free rides to all the different venues and along the amazing spectacle of Whitehall lit up by thousands of candles and lanterns

Showbiz Ireland - Tuesday 8th March 2005

Stop the Press - ShowBiz Ireland photographed Ronan Keating being fondled by and fondling Irish comedian Des Bishop! But don't worry it was all in the name of Men's Health.

ShowBiz Ireland caught up with Ronan Keating promoting two different charities at the Conrad Hotel yesterday were he fooled around with Irish comedian Des Bishop in front of the cameras.

The two talented guys were trying to "Enlighten not Frighten" with their Men Keeping Fit campaign to promote Prostate and Testicular cancer information and awareness.

And apart from their hilarious double-act the serious message behind the Marie Keating Foundation promotion is to raise money through the sale of Black Wrist Bands which both Ronan & Des were wearing.

The 2 Euro bands will go on sale to the public from various Newsagents and Marks & Spencers.

Ronan was also at the Conrad promoting his upcoming Bupa Ireland run which will take place in the Phoenix Park on April 9th.

Fiona Phillips talks to the Daily Mirror

When lovely Ronan Keating visits GMTV I always feel the urge to leap on him, like a mum welcoming a long-lost son.

His publicity lady Sam says he's "proper", and I know what she means.  He talks to everyone, nothing's too much trouble, he's "one of us".

But you know what? After 10 years in the business I think he may be touting for a new job. "I'll come and present with you," he said after hearing that Eamonn's leaving GMTV.

Suddenly 4am starts have taken on a whole new meaning!
