I’M ON COURSE for BABY NO. 3 Irish Sunday World –August 28th 2005 Thanks to roschicko2005! Golfer Ronan a fore father By JOHN COLES The Sun - August 30th 2005
POP hunk Ronan Keating sank the winning putt in an all-star golf tournament yesterday — seconds before learning his wife was in labour. Yvonne — expecting their third child in Dublin — felt contractions as she watched him on telly in the Ryder Cup-style match. Delighted Ronan said: “Whether it’s a boy or a girl, they will be called Ryder.” Ronan drives straight from fairway . . . to the labour ward Irish Independent - August 30th 2005 SINGER Ronan Keating was given the news that his wife had gone into labour at the moment his team romped home to victory in a celebrity golf tournament. As the former Boyzone singer teed off yesterday morning he thanked his wife Yvonne for not having yet had their baby so that he could compete in the two-day All Star Cup 2005 celebrity golf tournament in Newport, south Wales. But as he and team mate Damien Lewis played the final winning shots for the Europeans, the news came through that Yvonne was on her way to the maternity ward back in Dublin. Although the baby was not due until next week, luckily the singer had a private jet standing by in case of unexpected news. Keating and Damian Lewis - playing against Michael Douglas and Mark Spitz - were the last team to reach the final stage, and the American and European teams were separated by just a few points when Lewis putted the winning shot to take the European team to victory with 91 points to 89. Keating and Lewis were lapping up the applause from the crowds and jumping into the arms of their teams mates when the news reached them. They all whooped their congratulations and before he ran off the green to be with his wife, Yvonne, joking that they would have to call the baby Ryder. The tournament pitted European and American celebrities against each other in a Ryder Cup-style format. It took place on the Roman Road course at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, south Wales, which is set to host the Ryder Cup in 2012. Keating's team mates were left, many of them clutching pints of lager, to toast their success at the Celtic Manor Hotel. Chris Evans, Jodie Kidd, Rob Lowe and Boris Becker were among the stars who made an appearance on the green during the two day event. Plenty of friendly banter between the teams ensured that crowds, many of whom had flocked there more for the famous faces than the golf, were kept amused. Joker Evans encouraged spectators to sing the tune to Dallas to mark the Patrick Duffy's arrival. The tournament, brainchild of TV presenters Ant and Dec, saw a few interesting moments both on and off the green. Hollywood golden couple Catherine Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas, who played on opposing teams, were pitted against each other on the first day. Laura May in Newport Photo courtesy of Yahoo

All Star Cup screen captures - Day 2 Celeb-spotting in a night out in Newport ic Wales - August 29th 2005 Carolyn Hitt, Western Mail Car won by Colin Montgomerie in charity auction for MKF One elbow twitch and we could have accidentally bid £32,000 for an Audi TT. That honour went to Colin Montgomerie. The sports car had been donated by Ronan Keating, after he won it for finishing nearest the pin in the afternoon's competition. Colin's winning bid went to the Marie Keating Foundation, the charity Keating founded in memory of his mother who died from cancer seven years ago. Keating described how the foundation was raising awareness of breast cancer through the use of mobile units across southern Ireland - 5,000 women had already used them. "We've seen a 6% increase in breast cancer survival rates," he said, thanking team captain Montgomerie for his generous bid. The personable pop star also revealed some of the psychological tactics employed by the Europeans on the greens - particularly when actor Patrick Duffy hit a duff shot. The former Man From Atlantis, famed for emerging in a shower after convincing millions of viewers Bobby Ewing's demise was "all a dream", was the butt of several after- dinner gags. "Half of us can't play golf, so we were crapping ourselves," joked Keating, who plays off 18. "But the craic is great. "When Patrick Duffy was having a very tough time, the European team started singing the theme tune from Dallas." Ronan 28, is in training for his appearance on Ant and Dec's celebrity golf show, Sky's All Star Cup. And being a multi- squillionaire, the Irish star has gone the extra step and bought himself a swankey motor. I'm told : "He's had it specially made by BMW for his place in Portugal. "Its cost a small fortune. It has black chrome wheels, the front windscreen is tinted black and it has a full GPRS satellite navigation system. "On top of that , he's spent £10,000 on a top-of-the-range music system for the buggy - it looks more like a Smart Car than a golf cart." A spokesman for Ronan said: "He takes his golf seriously, but the golf cart is supposed to be tongue in cheek. "He saw a luxury cart in America and decided he wanted one for himself." The show will be screened on Sky One and takes place at Celtic Manor in South Wales at the end of this month when 10 American celebs take on 10 Europeans stars. Ronan said: "I'm good at golf.
